What is Erectile Dysfunction and What Can You do About it?

Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction (or ED) affects millions of men the world over. The latest National Health and Nutrition Examinational Survey (NHANES) suggests that 1 in 5 men will have erectile difficulty at some point in their life. That’s right; 20% of all men will suffer from ED at some point. As you get older the chances of suffering from ED go up. While Erectile Dysfunction isn’t really life-threatening, it does nevertheless affect the quality of a man’s life as it can affect their self-confidence, their career, and their relationship.

Erectile dysfunction is when a man struggles to achieve or maintain an erection. It can be caused by both physical and psychological triggers. The physiological causes of ED can also be linked to a more severe problem, such as a disease that can harden the arteries or diabetes, they could also be a side effect from a prescription drug or even radiation.

The primary causes for erectile dysfunction are psychological ones however.
This basically means that it can be caused by negative feelings including guilt,
stress, anger or even worrying about ejaculating too fast. If you get too caught
up on the negative things in your life such as a fight or a bad day at work then
it’s going to impact your sex life. You can work out for yourself if the problem is
a psychological or physical one by how frequently you have an erection. So if
you were to still achieve erections while asleep there’s a good chance your
problems are psychological ones.

Unfortunately there is a lot of money to be made by the pharmaceutical industry
by leaving men feeling like they have no choice but to use medication to treat their
erectile dysfunction, when this isn’t always the case. For the most part erectile
dysfunction can be treated through maintaining a healthy lifestyle along with
natural male enhancement supplements such as Male Extra. Give the
alternatives a chance before you decide to take expensive medication that can
become more of a hindrance than a help.

A healthy lifestyle contributes more to a healthy sex life than you might think. Ensure that you care for your mind and your body if you want to make it past times of erectile and sexual dysfunction. It could take a little work to adopt a healthy lifestyle but it can be more tolerable than taking medication. You’ll also be improving more than just your sex life. You’ll be improving your overall health and well-being. While it can sound obvious that taking better care of yourself leads to a better sex life too many men forget this or fail to realize it.

Put down the cigarettes and the booze because drinking and smoking too much are the two biggest erection killers. Nicotine works as a vasoconstrictor, which basically means that it tightens the blood vessels and stops blood flowing properly. Many men are already aware of the dangers of drinking and the “whiskey-dick” that can come with it.

Too many men are also failing to get enough sleep. While how much sleep a person needs varies from person to person, the average is still around 8 or 9 hours of sleep a night. You can’t just sleep in over the weekend to make up for lost time because the hours you should be sleeping will catch up to you. Being tired exhausts your body physically and mentally and makes you too tired for sex.

You should also exercise regularly. The Harvard Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (HPFS) recently found that men who exercise regularly (three to five times a week) were up to 30% less likely to fall victim to erectile dysfunction. Exercise can also reduce your stress levels which helps prevent ED.

Don’t be afraid to talk to a registered sex therapist if it takes more than just letting all your feelings out to solve your psychological problems. These therapists are trained to help you deal with anything that could be causing erectile dysfunction and other problems.
